2017 saw the debut of Newcastle’s newest festival, Hit The North. A resounding success, the event was opened by the fantastic Meet the North event which brought the best of the upcoming regional artists perform on some of Newcastle’s premier stages, giving them a taste of what may be yet to come for them.
PEACE have confirmed a return to the North East ahead of their album release, topping the Main Stage bill of 2018’s Meet The North on Saturday 5th May.
The festival, which takes place across various venues in Newcastle Upon Tyne, will be celebrating its second year after a hugely successful 2017. Taking place on the same week-end as big-sister event Hit the North (6th May), the festival sees Newcastle’s largest gath-ering of unsigned and emerging acts with the aim of showcasing some of the best talent from the North of the UK and Ireland.
Joining Peace on the line-up are a band who embody the fresh and vibrant ethos of Meet the North: THE ACADEMIC. The Irish group shot to viral fame in June 2017 with their innovative live-looper video for track ‘Bear Claw’. The video, which was performed live on a Facebook video stream, was the first of it’s kind, utilising the delay in the stream to create a musical loop.
The Academic are a success story which resonates with Meet the North; real artists with new ideas beating a drab system to make it in the industry. ’Bear Claw’ currently stands as having 1,883,549 views on youtube and has seen the band hit the number one spot in the Irish album charts with debut ‘Tales From The Back Seat’.
Far more than just a ‘guitar-band’ festival, Meet the North’s diverse line-up endeavours to provide a platform for artists of all genres. Find yourself carried away by the relaxing laments of troubadours in the Mining Institute with stunning vocals from TOM JOSHUA, REN, MARTHA HILL and more. Or, spit some bars with the retro-inspired talent that is KAY GRAYSON alongside some of the brightest hip-hop, electronic and grime stars: CEILING DEMONS, JSMIRK, CRIME WAVE and LISTAA.
Meet The North 2018 takes place across nine-venues in the heart of Newcastle Upon Tyne with a capacity of 1,500 festival goers descending upon the city on 5th May. We’ve barely scratched the surface of this treasure trove of new music that Meet The North 2018 has to offer. Despite being in it’s infancy, the festival already feels like a diverse and unmissable institution for music fans in the North East and beyond.
Festival organiser Steve Davis has celebrated the return of the emerging music festival.: “We can’t wait to welcome Peace back to Newcastle for Meet the North. Their success goes to show how new bands can become stars with great tunes, hard work and originality. 2018’s line-up is bigger and better, once again showing that no-one should be overlooking the North when it comes to new music”.
