Jackobins – Outside

Single review: Jackobins
For fans of: Kaiser Chiefs; Killers; JUDAS

‘Outside’ is one of those eagerly anticipated singles you can’t be disappointed with, particularly on your first listen.

The Liverpudlian band who’s single ‘Hasty’ was titled BBC Radio X’s track of the week have maintained and strengthened their awesome indie rock style, which will leave any Jackobins fan fulfilled, in their new single ‘Outside’.

‘Hasty’ is one of Jackobins’ more immediately enticing singles, that lures listeners in, building up the narrative layer by layer which in turn gives the song an aggressive breath of emotion. I feel, with their most current piece we see more of a chilled rock vibe with bursts of electric hotness. It makes for easy listening but at the same time is an infectious tune that you would desire to see performed live, if you are lucky enough, perhaps on their upcoming autumn tour.

Although ‘Outside’ lacks forcefully dramatic riffs and tone, its slightly more played down rock style fits completely with the lyrics of the song. It crafts a voice and character within the song that is perfectly casted. The single is written about “the dangers of solitude” said Jacobins and that “in a world dominated by social media people are becoming lonelier, and often those left on the outside become jealous observers of other peoples’ airbrushed lives”.

I really favour the theme taken upon by the four piece indie rock band, as it highlights a current and evolving issue which will connect and resonate with some respective listeners.  This exemplifies the depths the band is exploring and subsequently puts them on a new level.

If like me you are amongst Jackobins new and increasing audience, be sure to check their past work out and catch them on the bands live dates.
