PREVIEW: Frank Turner Announces July UK Headline Tour

Frank Turner & The Sleeping Souls have exciting news for their fans! Following the success of their ambitious world record attempt to perform the most gigs in different cities within 24 hours on May 4th/5th, they’ve now revealed plans for a more traditional headline UK tour in July 2024. This tour celebrates Frank Turner’s recenly released tenth album, “Undefeated”.

Discussing the upcoming tour, Frank shared his enthusiasm: “This July, I’m bringing the new album, the Sleeping Souls, and my good friends The Meffs to some of my favourite venues across the UK, right in between our festival appearances.”

On the lead single from the record ‘No Thank You For The Music’, Frank reflects, “Now I’m surprised to report that as I enter my forties, I’ve returned to being an angry man.” This sentiment captures the essence of “Undefeated,” a follow-up to his first UK #1 album, 2022’s ‘FTHC’. The new album blends youthful outspokenness with the trials of midlife, covering topics like identity, transformative love, friendships, nostalgia, the lingering effects of the pandemic, and the mundane issue of persistent backache.

Frank commented on the significance of this album: “There are no clichés about the difficult 10th album, so in some ways, that’s a liberating statement. But at the same time, I have a duty to justify writing and releasing a 10th album. That’s a lot of records for anybody. Also, I’m 42. Which is not a sexy, rock’n’roll age. But all through my career, I’ve been interested in writers like Loudon Wainwright III or The Hold Steady, people who write about adulthood, essentially.”

Musically, “Undefeated” reflects a broad range of influences Frank has embraced throughout his career, from Black Flag to Counting Crows, Descendents to The Pogues, and Elvis Costello to Billy Bragg. This diversity mirrors his creative freedom and the environment of his home studio on Mersea Island, Essex, where he recorded the album with his live band: Ben Lloyd (guitar), Tarrant Anderson (bass), Callum Green (drums), and Matt Nasir (piano).

Frank Turner’s release of “Undefeated” is now confirmed to be accompanied by a typically rigorous tour schedule, showcasing his renowned tenacity. Known for feats like the 50 States in 50 Days North American tour, Frank’s ambition is as high as ever as he approaches his 3000th gig. For now, fans can look forward to the new album, which promises to be as energising, thoughtful, and provocative as ever.

“Undefeated” is available now.
